Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation (1944)

The Convention on International Civil Aviation, also known as the Chicago Convention, established the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), a specialized agency of the United Nations charged with coordinating and regulating international air travel. The Convention establishes rules of airspace, aircraft registration and safety, and details the rights of the signatories in relation to air travel. The Convention also exempts air fuels from tax.

Montreal Convention (1971)

This document details the ICAO Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Civil Aviation, which addressed the following: (1) that unlawful acts against the safety of civil aviation jeopardize the safety of persons and property, seriously affect the operation of air services, and undermine the confidence of the peoples of the world in the safety of civil aviation; (2) that the occurrence of such acts is a matter of grave concern; (3) and that, for the purpose of deterring such acts, there is an urgent need to provide appropriate measures for punishment of offenders.

Montreal Supplementary Protocol (1988)

This document details the ICAO International Conference on Air Law that took place in Montreal in 1988, focusing on the the suppression of unlawful acts of violence at airports serving international civil aviation. The protocol is supplementary to the Montreal Convention of 1971.
